* Assures On Welfare of Ex-Service Men

The Sokoto state Government has set up a road map inline with the Global best practice, for the full implementation of the International Public Sector Accounting Standards known as U ( IPSAS) for private and public sector in the state.
The state had developed a comprehensive and standardized accounting procedures that eased implementation of the new accounting system. "The new Accounting system is an integrated budget and accounting classification system which has been prepared primarily for the implementation of the state accounting system that is IPSAS compliant." Speaking at a sensitization exercise for accounting officers and other stakeholders, the commissioner of finance, Hon Abdussamad Dasuki, commended the Speaker of Sokoto State House of Assembly, Hon Aminu Manya Achida, for his cooperation and support to the Sokoto State Governor, Rt Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal. He said the speed with which the 2020 budget was passed by the members of the state House of Assembly was highly commendable.
The commissioner further stated that his ministry, had since assumption of the present administration, maintained higher sense of discipline and excellent Accounting procedure with a view to ensuring transparency and sanity in it's accounting system. In his presentation, the Accountant General of the State, Alhaji Umar Ahamad Tambuwal, said henceforth, the presentation of budget would be all inclusive and participatory .
He said the implementation of IPSAS would build confidence in the minds of donor Agencies and lenders of the state Government. The Accountant General said, IPSAS would also enhance public private partnership as well as leverage the state economy and improved service delivery through holistic reportage of government financial transactions. In another development, the Sokoto State Government said it will continue to support the Nigerian Legion in the state for the welfare of ex-servicemen and families of the deceased military personnel from the State.
The state Governor, Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, stated this at the launching of this year's Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem appeal fund held at the Banquet Hall, Government Lodge One, in Sokoto. The Governor who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Sa'idu Umar, recalled the sacrifices made by the Nation's ex-servicemen in the service of the nation in West Africa, Africa and other parts of the world where they excelled through unparalleled gallantry, discipline and professionalism.
He announced the State Government's contribution of N3million to the emblem appeal fund and the State Governor's personal contribution of N2million. According to the Governor, the State's Deputy Governor, Alhaji Manir Mohammed Dani'ya, would support the fund with N250,000 while the SSG, the Head of Staff and the Head of Civil Service would each contribute N100,000 to the fund.
He added that Members of the State Executive Council and Special Advisors and Special Assistants would each support the fund with the sum of N20,000 and N10,000 respectively, and the Civil Servants in the State would contribute the sum of N2million to the fund. Speaking earlier, the Commissioner of Home Affairs, Alhaji Abdulkadir Jeli Abubakar III, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Ibrahim Adamu, said the occasion was organised to show appreciation for the contribution of the ex-servicemen in the service of the unity and stability of the country.
The Chief launcher of the fund, Alhaji Ahmadu Maidoya, made the single individual contribution of N2million to the fund while the Deputy Chief launcher, Alhaji Yawale Mu'azu Danjabalu, supported the fund with N1 million.
Other top contributors were the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital whose Chief Medical Director, Dr. Anas Sabir, made a pledge of one million Naira to the fund and Sokoto Cement Company represented by Alhaja Sada Suleiman, also made a pledge of one million Naira to the fund.
Alhaji Hadi Waziri, pledged to support the fund with the sum of one million Naira. At the end of the occasion, the Chief Launcher, Alhaji Ahadu Maidoya, announced that the total amount pledged and contributed was Fifteen Million, Three Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira
