Price of the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) popularly known as petrol has skyrocketed on Tuesday morning in Bauchi and environs.
The development followed the removal of petrol subsidy by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu after his inaugural speech to the nation on Monday at the Eagle Square, Abuja.
NIGERIAN NEWSLEADER Newspaper Correspondent who went round the Bauchi town, reports that many filling station were locked up, while the few selling had long queue of vehicles waiting to purchase the product. The queue still continued uptil this Wednesday morning, though not as intense.
According to one black marketer seller at Kobi Street, Sanusi Agela, they're buying the product at a cost of N377 and N1,885 per litre and selling at N500 and N2,500 for a litre and gallon respectively.
He explained that they travelled as far as 50 to 60 kilometers out of the main city of Bauchi before they could get the product from the outskirts dealers at exorbitant price.
Corroborating, Jamilu Muhammed, a resident of unguwar Sarakuna, said: "I was surprised when I came out from my house and witnessed only one filling station selling the fuel product.
"I appeal to the new president, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to ensure a close monitoring so that the marketer's would not take undue advantage against people.
However, the situation around the Bauchi state metropolis is still creating untold hardship on the common people, especially the masses and school children.
Motorists are beginning to lament the situation of the artificial fuel scarcity and the immediate adjustment of the fuel price by filling stations in the Bauchi State metropolis. NNL.
