The Department of State Services (DSS) has raised the alarm over what it described as plots by some elements in collaboration with external forces to incite religious crisis and ferment violence across the country.

An alert statement issued on Monday by the DSS spokesman, Dr. Peter Afunanya, reveals that the alleged planned violence was targeted at some states in the North, South East, South West and South-South. According to Afunanya, the states include Sokoto, Kano, Kaduna, Plateau, Rivers, Oyo, Lagos and those in the South East.

The State Services Department also disclosed that part of the alleged plans to destabilize the country using the religious instruments "is to cause inter-religious conflicts as well as use their foot soldiers to attack some worship centers, religious leaders, personalities, key and vulnerable points".

The DSS, therefore, warns Nigerians to be cautious and advised the citizens "to be wary of these antics and shun all divisive tendencies aimed at inciting or setting them against one another".

The Service assured that it will continue to collaborate with sister security agencies in the country to ensure that public order is maintained. The DSS however warned the masterminds of the said plots "to desist from such in the interest of peace, security and development of the country.

It said "law-abiding citizens (and residents) are encouraged to report suspected breaches of peace around them to the nearest security agencies", the statement said. NNL.
