The Zamfara State Council of Traditional Rulers had blamed the spate of kidnappings of students and school pupils across the country on lack of adequate security by the government.

The traditional rulers made the observation on Sunday, shortly before the abducted Girls of Jangebe College were freed by the bandits. The Emirs were at the Government House in Gusau, Zamfara State Capital, on a sympathy visit to governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle over the abduction of female students of Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe in Talata Mafara local government area of the state.

The chairman of the council and Emir of Anka, Alhaji Attahiru Ahmed, said the security of lives and property of every Nigerian is the exclusive responsibility of the federal government.

The Emir added that the state governments only play complementary roles by giving support and logistics to the security operatives in their respective states.

"If anyone thinks that the abduction or the kidnap of the female students is the fault of the governor, then the person does not know the roles of the federal government," he said.

Responding, governor Matawalle reiterated the commitments of his administration to continue to use the non-kinetic method in fighting banditry in the state.

Matawalle enjoined the people particularly parents to remain calm and be prayerful as security operatives are on top of the situation to ensure that the abducted students are rescued safely without any hurt.

"Those behind the act would be fished out and prosecuted," he assured. NNL.
