Senator Sahabi Yau representing Zamfara North Senatorial District has called on Nigerians irrespective of political differences to join hands in the fight against insecurity bedeviling the country.

Senator Sahabi made the call while addressing journalists in Gusau on his way to Kaura Namoda local government area to commiserate and sympathize with the people over the recent banditry activities in Zamfara North and other parts of the state.

He described the recent surge of violent attacks in the state and in the country as disturbing and therefore advised on the need for Nigerians to collectively do something to bring it to an end.

"It is a collective work not only for the government of the federation, not only the state government, not individual but each and every one of us would have to wake and realize that we are in a serious danger and therefore we need to immediately swing into action to bring it to an end," he said.

The Senator assures that the National Assembly is working assiduously to ensure that all forms of insecurity is curbed in the country.

"Security issues are sensitive issues that cannot be discussed in the public but certainly at the National Assembly we have been doing and still doing our utmost best to see how we can stop this insecurity in the country," he said.

The lawmaker added that a motion on the Control of mining activities in Zamfara state and other parts of the country sponsored by him is meant to regulate mining operations and also checkmate insecurity.

"We analyze and realize that some of these criminal activities started from these mining spots and if we can curtail that we would have achieved two and many other things together.

"One, we will be able to generate revenue for the country because of the fact that mining activities are going to be regulated and each and every action of the mining companies will have to be known.

"Two, those people who come to mining illegally and later on turned into banditry will be eliminated," he said.

The Senator promised to establish grazing grounds for herders to complement the efforts of Zamfara state governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle who is building RUGA settlement to contained the herders in one place.

"This year by the grace of God, I intend to ho into providing grazing grounds for the Fulani so that they could be contained in one place.

"I intend to identify the location, secure it then plant grass that could be harvested into bales that can be used throughout the seasons even after the raining season.

"By the time that is done, one of the problems has been removed like what governor Matawalle his doing in the Maradun local government area.

The Senator said he is also empowering youths as an initiative to stop them from getting involved in crimes.

"I have trained and empowered more than 500 youths in various skills and various trades to enable them to become self-reliant and avoid being used by the devil," he said. NNL.
