A political group, the Glory Restoration Group (GRG), has urged Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, to consider joining the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), citing concerns over the growing dominance of major political parties in Nigeria.

The group made the call during a press briefing in Bauchi, where its National Coordinator said it had been closely monitoring recent political developments, particularly speculations about attempts to lure the governor from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to the group, the increasing concentration of political power in a single party poses a threat to Nigeria’s multiparty democracy, stressing that a strong opposition is vital for national development.

“The current political trend suggests a gradual drift towards a one-party state. The best way to address this is for credible leaders to align with parties that are built on clear ideological principles,” the coordinator said.

The group described the PRP as one of Nigeria’s oldest political parties, with roots in the Second Republic, noting that it is founded on a people-oriented ideology focused on social welfare.

It also recalled Bauchi State’s history of political diversity, where different parties have secured representation in both the National and State Assemblies, stressing that such pluralism should be sustained.

While acknowledging efforts by the current administration, the group maintained that more needs to be done to improve the welfare of citizens.

“We believe that a platform like the PRP offers an opportunity to deepen governance and prioritise the needs of the masses,” the group added.

The GRG further assured that the PRP remains stable and free of internal crises, making it a viable platform for leaders committed to the development of the state.

It urged the governor to prioritise public interest over political alliances, noting that electoral success in Bauchi has historically depended on the trust of the people rather than elite arrangements.

Meanwhile, the Bauchi State Chairman of the PRP, Abdulrahman Yusuf Mu’azu, said the party is open to accommodating the governor, adding that it is ready to make necessary adjustments to strengthen its structure.

He also called on party supporters to participate actively in the ongoing Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) voter registration exercise in the state. NNL.
