Former Military President, Gen. Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) has commiserated with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Nigerians over the death of Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff (CoAS), Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja.
Taoreed Lagbaja is said to have died in Lagos hospital over undisclosed protracted illness on November 5th, 2024.
Babangida said the death of the former CoAS, coming at this point in his life and career is not only a profound loss to his immediate family but to Nigeria as a whole, describing him as, 'a fine officer and a dedicated leader of men whose sense of patriotism was exemplary'.
Press statement from the Media Office of former President Babangida, paid glowing tribute to late Lagbaja, describing him as one of Nigeria's finest gallant soldier of his time.
The statement further emphasized that, 'Lagbaja's vigorous efforts at the frontline of the war to end armed banditry and insurgency has already started yielding good fruits'.
"It is unfortunate that Lagbaja would not be around to see the end of armed banditry", IBB said as he prayed God to grant the deceased eternal peace.
"My heart goes out to his beloved family, officers and men, and the country that has once again lost a gallant army chief, one in the fine tradition of his brilliant predecessors. May his soul Rest In Perfect Peace".
As the Nigerian Armed Forces continue to make the necessary sacrifice to safeguard the country's democracy, our territorial integrity, and our safety, He join other citizens in applauding the courage of their example. NNL.
