Prominent Politician and a Chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from the South East Zone, Chief Longers Anyanwu (Ebubedike), has commended the APC delegates, contestants, leaders of the party and President Muhammadu Buhari, for the various roles they played in the emergence of Senator Adamu Abdullahi as the new National Chairman of the ruling party, at the Saturday's Convention.
Longers Anyanwu who was seen everywhere on Saturday at the Eagle Square Convention ground, was busy mobilising delegates for the new chairman and equally interfacing with some of the leading aspirants for the Chairmanship position to step down and back Senator Adamu Abdullahi for the APC top job.
Anyanwu at a post-Convention interview with newsmen on Sunday, expressed great elation at the election of Senator Adamu Abdullahi, describing it as a positive development that will tremendously improve the fortunes of the APC in the coming 2023 general elections and beyond. He said the election of Adamu excites great majority of the APC members who, he said, have longed for an experienced father figure that will wield the party together and chart a new chapter of unity and consensus within the party in the years ahead.
The former National Chairman of Accord Party and also a former Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development in Imo state, however pointed out that Senator Adamu Abdullahi's victory at the convention was what he described as an evident "harvest of good fruits of the hardwork of a purposeful leadership enthroned by President Muhammadu Buhari, the leader of the party" especially at a time, he said, "cynics and opposition parties, particularly the PDP, had concluded that the national convention was going to mark the requiem of the party"
Longers expressed his joy at Adamu's election thus:
"The Emergence of Senator Adamu Abdullahi as new National Chairman is a big victory to All APC members in Nigeria and in diaspora. The APC members, those who were inside the Eagle Square venue of the just-concluded March 26th Convention and even the millions of people outside the Square but who watched and monitored the peaceful conduct of the exercise, have every reason to be happy with the outcome of our party's Convention.
"We proved to the world that the APC can do it and do it right. We equally proved to the opposition groups who had ill-wish for us, all along, that the APC is a united family. We proved to them (opposition) that the leader of our party, President Muhammadu Buhari and the interim leadership of the APC under governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, were prepared for a peaceful and acceptable convention.
"Across all sections of the APC leadership, it was unanimously agreed that the emergence of an experienced human manager and a bridge builder like Senator Adamu Abdullahi will herald a new era of discipline, internal democracy and electoral victories for the APC. He is indeed what our party needed now to swing into planning and set the necessary template and tempo for the 2023 elections and beyond", Anyanwu said.
Chief Longers Anyanwu, one of the strategic players behind the election of Senator Adamu Abdullahi as National Chairman, however, paid a glowing tribute to President Buhari for what he described as his dogged determination to ensure that Senator Adamu Abdullahi, the Turakin Keffi, emerged without rancor. He stated that the founding father's of "our great party, APC, like Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha, Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and a host of other leaders, were able to ensure the success of the party's consensus decision.
"The acceptance of a consensus candidate by other distinguished contestants was another historical sacrifice that made the convention event a very huge success. This great leaders need to be accorded their right place in our party, the APC.
"Worthy of commendation, also, are the APC governors for respecting the consensus nomination of our new national chairman. I also commend so many party enforcers and leg workers including myself who were in the field to market the emergence of this new legendary leader, Senator Adamu Abdullahi, as National Chairman", Chief Longers Anyanwu said.
