Experts in media, advertising and public relations professions, including media academicians, on Thursday, showered encomiums on veteran journalist, renowned PR guru and media scholar, Dr Chido Nwakanma, on his new book titled: "Media Relations Playbook".
The book received torrents of praises for it's incisive and educating content which is adjudged a valuable companion for practitioners, students and teachers in media practice and corporate media relations.
Nwakanma, a director in a Lagos based Frontfoot Media Limited, is a versatile media trainer and an experienced hand in Public Relations practice and Corporate Media Relations. He has spent over 40 years in the media industry, where he has worked as news writer and senior editor before branching off into full time media relations practice in several local and international organisations.
In the mid eighties, Chido Nwakanma was a popular name in the Nigeria print media sector. He was an influencial and widely read writer and senior editor with the famous but defunct THISWEEK Magazine published by the ThisDay and ARISE News TV Chairman, Mr Nduka Obaigbena.
Below are commendation notes on Nwakanma's new book, 'Media Relations Playbook':
- "A Needed Valuable Handbook By PR Practitioners, Teachers And Students
This is so darn good, and I couldn't put it down without rushing through the entire content. It is needed very badly - by practitioners, teachers, and students. I like every aspect, particularly Lesson 10 - theories work, and Lesson 24 - on free work".
...Prof Charles Okigbo, pioneer Registrar of the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria and emeritus professor of communication, North Dakota State University, USA
- "Instruction Manual on Public Relations Practice in Nigeria
Your book is an instruction manual on Public Relations practice in Nigeria written by a frontline PR practitioner. It fills a void. It is written in simple language. I was much better informed about what actual PR practice was all about. It educated me about a lot I didn't know and reminded me of things I had learnt long ago but had forgotten".
...George Emeghara, Communication consultant and entrepreneur
- "Teachable nuggets
The author has expertly distilled over three decades of media and IMC practice into teachable nuggets to guide PR students and practitioners alike. The insightful cases included in the book are unique and refreshing. The book will add to the growing literature on PR as a scholarly discipline, particularly with the unbundling of mass communication in our universities".
...Dr Tony Onyima is a former Commissioner for Information of Anambra State and former Managing Director of The Sun newspapers.
- "A worthy contribution to the literature
This work is a worthy contribution to the literature in that area. The fact that it is Nigeria-focused makes it more interesting. This pioneering work will challenge other scholars to expand and extend the conversation. I endorse the effort and would readily recommend it to students, teachers, practitioners, professionals, and researchers. I commend you for the breadth of the book".
...Ugo Onuoha, former Managing Director, Champion Newspapers Limited.
- "Delivers practical, real-world, and user-friendly tips and examples.
I've read through your phenomenal Media Relations Playbook, and it's what the industry has been waiting for. I have many books in that category, but I think Media Relations Playbook cuts above the clutter to deliver practical, real-world, and user-friendly tips and examples. The book is engaging and could pass for every PR practitioner's desktop guide across continents. It will sell because it impacts the practitioner for good. It was a lovely refresher for me, even as I've learned a great deal from its pages. I love the delivery, flow, and universality of your work".
...Atim Nkpubre, Lead Consultant, David and Destiny Consulting
- "A great reference for many in IMC
Congratulations on this worthy effort. Your deep knowledge shines through and the book will serve as a great reference for many in the IMC world. I love the list of Lessons. Most are well-outlined and make for good reading".
