- * Sanction Erring Banks, CBN Urged
By Mohammed Nasir Shuaibu (Bauchi State Correspondent)
Many banks in Bauchi State, at the weekend, failed to offer weekend services across the local government area councils in the state despite directives by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to do so.
Sources from the various local governments council areas in Bauchi State, revealed that all the banks did not render services throughout the weekend.
The investigation also revealed that those among the few ones that opened for business during the weekend, closed their branch operations early, leaving only the Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) and Point of Sales (POS) outlets to service the people.
Some of the customers found at the bank gates, expressed worry over the attitude of bank officials not respecting the CBN's directive to open on weekends. They, however, appealed to the CBN to immediately sanction such banks or any bank that fail to operate at the weekend to serve customers, according to its directive.
It will be recalled that the apex bank had directed all banks in the country, last Friday, to begin weekend services to reduce the tension and scarcity of the naira notes in circulation.
Efforts by NEWSLEADER Newspaper Correspondent to get the reaction of the bank officials over their non-compliance with the CBN's directive proved abortive. NNL.
