Nigeria's President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Friday, suspended the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr Godwin Emefiele, from office with immediate effect.
A statement on Friday evening, June 9, 2023 by Mr Willie Bassey, Director, Information in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), said the suspension is sequel to the on-going investigation of his office and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy.
According to the statement, Mr Emefiele has been directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will act as the Central Bank Governor pending the conclusion of investigation and the reforms. NNL.
