Suspected bandits, between Tuesday and Wednesday night, kidnapped no fewer than twenty persons in Pejelu and Wabebe villages of Dange Shuni local government, locals conformed.
The bandits were said to have stormed Wababe village at about midnight on Tuesday September 14, 2021, killing one person and escaping with 9 others including a serving councilor.
Confirming the incident, the Sokoto State Police Command Spokesperson, ASP Sanusi Abubakar, said their officers swiftly responded to the attack, forcing the bandits to beat a retreat by leaving behind their fuel and food stuffs which they had wanted to take along with them into the forest.
Giving updates on the series of attacks faced by their communities lately, another villager said, the bandits also unleashed terror on Pajelu village of Dange Shuni local government on Wednesday night.
According to the source who pleaded anonymity, some heavily armed bandits stormed Pajeru village of Dange Shuni at about 12 midnight shooting sporadically at anything in sight.
The source confirmed that the bandits numbering over 50, killed two people and went away with 12 persons. Authenticating his claim, the source gave the name of one of those killed as Bala Garba, who, according to him, was until his death, a vice principal at Dange Shuni and his childhood friend and schoolmate.
Recall that locals have decried lately that bandits have shifted base to Sokoto State following disconnection of network in Zanfara State by the Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) and the resultant heavy pressure mounted on them by the Nigeria security agencies.
Few days before these attacks, there was mild panic in Shuni village of Dange Shuni local government resulting from a letter allegedly dropped by bandits notifying them of imminent unstoppable attacks on four villages of the LGA.
Dange Shuni local government is less than 20 minutes drive from Sokoto metropolis. It is also less than 40 minutes drive from Tureta, the local government that shares immediate border with Zamfara State by road. NNL.
