A yet to be apprehended gunmen believed to be bandits have, once again, vent their anger in Ungwan Mai Lalle market at Sabon Birni local government in Sokoto State, killing 20 persons, injuring 30 others before carting away foodstuffs, locals confirmed.
The incident, according to local people's accounts, happened on Friday, October 8, 2021.
A former chairman of the local government who spoke with NIGERIAN NEWSLEADER Correspondent on condition of anonymity said the bandits might be out of food hence they went after markets in search of food.
Though he declined comments on a number of casualties, it was however gathered from locals that the bandits suspected to be Fulanis shot sporadically into the market, killing 20 and injuring many others who are receiving treatment at Sabon Birni General Hospital.
The Sokoto State Police Command spokesperson, ASP Abubakar Sanusi, could not be reached for confirmation at the time of filing this report. However, one Ibrahim who claimed to have lost two family members, said the attackers are heartless.
Sabon Birni is one of the eight local government areas of Sokoto East Senatorial district that has continued to suffer consistent banditry attacks.
Recall that a few days ago, angry youths who constituted themselves into vigilantes popularly known as "Yan Sakai" in one of the local government areas of Sokoto East Senatorial districts, took their anger to the market and opened fire at any Fulani on sight.
The youths were said to have taken the action in reprisal of the serial attacks on their people by bandits believed to be of Fulani stock. NNL.
