The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt Gen Farouk Yahaya, on Tuesday, flagged-off the 2022 Nigerian Army's Second Commanding Officer's Workshop at the Giginya Barracks in Sokoto State.
Farouk who reiterated that training and retraining of personnel is very critical towards achieving success, added that, doing so also would help equip officers with global best practices.
While noting that Nigerian security agencies are working round the clock to ensure security of all times, the Army Chief used the avenue to thank President Muhammdu Buhari and governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwl for their continued support to the security agencies.
"All aspects of training activities must be in line with acceptable practices. Training will continue to receive priority attention in other to attain the desired professional requirements to bring to an end the plethora of security challenges confronting the country at the moment.
"It is therefore my hope that the workshop will go a long way to redirect the perspective of our personnel on how best to provide practical solutions to the contemporary security challenges confronting Nigeria.
The 2022 workshop has it's theme as, "Equipping Maintenance and Operational Efficiency: The Role of Operational and Tactical Level Commanders in the Nigerian Army as well as Sister Services Through Interagency Cooperation".
In a welcome address, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 8 Div Maj Gen Uwem Bassey, noted that the several operations being undertaken by the Division gives them an insight to talk on the activities of bandits, terrorists, kidnappers and rustlers amongst others.
The GOC further encouraged participants to bring their wealth of knowledge to bear towards finding lasting solutions to the spate of insecurity.
Earlier, the Sultan of Sokoto and President General, Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar 111, in his Goodwill message, thanked the Nigerian Army for the selfless services they are rendering to their fatherland.
"Once a General, always a General. I am happy to be in the midst of security personnel always. They are doing their best, and we will continue to pray for them", the Sultan noted.
Continuing, Sultan said such workshops are very important as it is good to always exchange ideas amongst security agencies.
"We will continue to pray for you and our country for peace. The theme of the workshop is very important. But the best equipment is as good as the person holding it. Continue to do your best, no matter wherever you find yourself.
On his part, the State governor, Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, maintained that the state has very good relationship with all security agencies in Sokoto. Tambuwal further noted that inter-agency cooperation is very fundamental in the quest and drive towards the establishment of peace in our country.
""No doubts, the security agencies have their challenges, but we will continue to appeal to President Muhammadu Buhari to give priority attention to more and more supply of equipment. However, equally most important is maintaining the ones available to help in achieving strategic results", governor Tambuwal submitted. NNL.
