One of the fleeing suspects from the Kuje Correctional Centre in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, has been recaptured in Suleja, a commercial hub in Niger state, which shares slim boundary with the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
The suspect, 54-year old Kazeem Murtala, according to a statement by DSP Wasiu A. Abiodun, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Niger state Command, for the state Commissioner of Police, said the suspect was re-arrested on Friday July 9, 2022, at about 2030 hours.
According to the statement, “Police operatives attached to 'A' Div Suleja while on patrol around General hospital Suleja down to Bakassi area of the commercial hub and based on credible intelligence, the operatives stormed an identified compound and arrested one Kazeem Murtala, aged 54 years”.
During interrogation, the inmate confessed that he escaped from Kuje Custodial Center during the attack where he was serving jail term after conviction for an offense he committed and he has been in the custody for the past two years.
Meanwhile, the Niger state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Monday Bala Kuryas, who commended the Suleja patrol team for the feat, also directed that the inmate should be immediately transferred to the custodial center.
While also appreciating members of the general public for giving useful information and intelligence information that enabled the Police to recapture the fleeing suspect, however called for the sustenance of such collaborative effort towards the fight against crime and other forms of criminality.
