In Niger state, the District Head of Wawa in Borgu Emirate Council, Borgu Local Government Area, the Dodo of Wawa, Dr. Mahmud Ahmed Aliyu, has been abducted by suspected armed bandits.
Ahmed Aliyu, according to NIGERIAN NEWS-LEADER findings, was abducted by the gunmen in a convoy of motorcycles and numbering about 15, as he was about to retire for the day in his palace on Sunday at about 10 pm.
The invaders were said to have stormed the area and shot sporadically into the air apparently to scare the villagers. While some were positioned in strategic locations, others were said to have entered the palace and whisked the traditional ruler away on a motorcycle.
The abduction of Mahmud Ahmed Aliyu has thrown his subjects into a state of confusion and uncertainty, considering the frequency at which armed bandits have renewed their operations, especially along the border town with the Benin Republic.
As Wawa community has continued to lament the abduction of their traditional ruler, our correspondent learned that the abductors were yet to make contact with the family at the time of this report on Monday.
The Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), Niger Command, ASP Wasiu A Abiodun, could not be reached for comments, but NEWS-LEADER correspondent learned that the palace of Dodo of Wawa is about twelve kilometers to New-Bussa where one of the Nigerian Army barracks is located.
Secretary to the Niger State Government (SSG), Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim Matane, confirmed the abduction. The SSG however expressed the state government’s preparedness to deploy the combined security forces to go after the perpetrators and ensure the quick rescue of the traditional ruler unharmed.
