The police in Niger state has given account of how Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) attached to MOPOL 12 headquarters, Minna, the state capital, Isah Abdullahi, a.ka. 'Kunkuri' terminated his own life to avoid facing full wrath of the law over allegations of arms and ammunitions supply to armed bandits.

DSP Isah Abdullahi, until his death on Wednesday 17th December, 2025 had served as the head of the armoury, Mopol 12 headquarters, Niger State Police Command, located at the ‘A’ Divisional Police, Paiko road, Minna.

Trouble started for late DSP Abdullahi when a team of crack detectives from the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) Abuja, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu stormed MOPOL 12 to audit the Command's arms and ammunition.

During the audit, the visiting crack team from the office of the NSA discovered that some numbers of caches of ammunition were missing, could not be traced or accounted for without reasonable explanations from late Isah Abdullahi.

The NSA team, were further pissed by its preliminary findings which revealed that; 13 AK-47, over 2, 000 rounds of live ammunition and other assorted rifles have also disappeared from the MOPOL 12 store and unaccounted for.

Findings by the team led to the arrest of a Police Inspector, John Moses, attached to Niger State Government House, who on interrogations confessed that the late DSP Abdullahi supplies him arms and ammunition, as a middle man for onward delivery to armed bandits and other criminal elements operating around Erena, Shiroro Local Government Area.

The activities of the duo, Nigerian NewsLeader Newspaper correspondent gathered, could not be easily detected because Inspector John Moses, an indigene of Shiroro as a middle man between the late DSP Isah Abdullahi and the armed bandits, also has his brother residence in the same locality serving as both links and informant to most of the criminal elements operating in the area.

The Mopol 12 armoury had various categories of weapons, the auditing team started with the AK-47 section when the tragic incident occurred, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Wasiu A. Abiodun, said in a live phone-in Radio programme monitored by our Niger state correspondent.

Apart from Inspector John Moses who have been moved to the NSA office, Abuja, four police officers attached to the late DSP, according to Abiodun have been arrested and are undergoing interrogations for alleged negligence while 24 hours vigilance have been mounted on the armoury.

Meanwhile, NewsLeader findings revealed that DSP Abdullahi invested his ill-gotten wealth in properties as he is reported to own at least two houses in choice areas of Minna metropolis and cars.

Painting a picture of how DSP Abdullahi ended his life on the spot to avoid consequences of sabotaging government efforts to end armed banditry and insecurity, Abiodun said the deceased, "smartly brought out a pistol, and shot himself as he was bringing out boxes that were supposed to contain the Command's arms and ammunition and most of the boxes were found to be empty.”

The PPRO who hinted that some policemen from the Command who were initially detailed to audit and investigate activities in the armoury were arrested for 'negligence in the line of duty', to have allowed such a thing to occur, said further investigations is in progress. NNL.
