The headquarters of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Abuja, confirmed, on Saturday night, that the Media Aide to the Kano State governor, Mallam Salihu Tanko-Yakassai, is currently being held in their secure facility.
Spokesman of the DSS, Dr. Peter Afunanya, in a statement late at night at the weekend, admitted that Mallam Yakassai, the son of a frontline politician and elder statesman, Alhaji Tanko-Yakassai, is being held by the DSS.
Afunanya explained that he is "being investigated over issues beyond the expression of opinions in the social media as wrongly alleged by sections of the public"
The confirmation by DSS has laid to rest all uncertainties surrounding the whereabouts of Mallam Salihu Yakasai since Friday. The inability of the DSS to make official clarification regarding the arrest and detention of Salihu Yakassai, however, gave room for speculations.
An earlier statement by the Service claimed it was still expecting an official reaction from its Kano State Command in respect of Mallam Yakassai's whereabouts. He was said to have been picked up by the Kano State Command of the DSS in a controversial circumstance and whisked away to its Abuja Headquarters.
The Kano State Command of the DSS had denied the reported arrest while his father, Alhaji Tanko Yakassai was said to have insisted that his son was “arrested on his way to a barbing salon in Kano”.
In a Twitter post on Friday, Mallam Salihu Yakassai accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of failing to secure Nigerians. NNL.
