As a profound acknowledgement of his excellent performance in the past thirteen (13) years as a Business/Finance Journalist and as Deputy Editor, Thisday Daily, the Board of Directors of THISDAY and Arise Media Group has announced the elevation of Mr. Obinna Chima as the Editor, weekend title of the newspaper known as THISDAY on Saturday.

Obinna's appointment was unveiled on Monday, November 20, 2023, just two days after his return from Uyo, Akwa State capital after participating in the just concluded 2023 Edition of the All Nigerian Editors Conference (ANEC) which held from Tuesday, November 14 to Friday, November 17, 2023.

The appointment of youthful and brilliant Mr Obinna Chima as new Editor of THISDAY on Saturday from his previous position of Deputy Editor of THISDAY, which he assumed in 2021, has been well commended in the media circle.

The new Editor is expected to bring his wealth of professional experience to bear on the paper by enriching the editorial content of the newspaper for the benefit of the paper’s esteemed readers across all THISDAY’s news platforms.

As a hardworking journalist with strong nose for news, Obinna Chima has about 15 years cognate professional experience in the media industry. He joined THISDAY Newspaoer Group on August 10, 2010, as a Money Market Correspondent.

He began his journalism career in 2006 with the National Mirror Newspapers in Lagos State as a Labour Reporter shortly after his National Youth Service Corps the same year. Obinna also worked briefly with The Punch Newspaper as a Capital Market Correspondent. He also worked with Profund Securities Limited (formerly a member of the Nigerian Stock Exchange), as a Research and Planning Officer; as well as Business Hallmark Newspaper as a Finance Correspondent.

Obinna's excellent media career was prepared with a solid academic backgrounding. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics from the Imo State University. He also obtained a Master of Science Degree in Research and Public Policy from the University of Lagos, as well as a Master of Science in Economics from the Lagos State University.

Obinna is currently at the verge of acquiring his Doctorate Degree (Ph.D) in Policy and Strategic Studies at Covenant University, Ogun State. He is presently awaiting his viva presentation.

The New Saturday THISDAY Editor who was born in Lagos, had his secondary education at King’s High School (KHS), Satellite Town, Lagos State, between 1992 and 1998. He also attended Army Children School, Ojo Military Cantonment, Ojo, Lagos, for his primary education, where he graduated in 1992.

Due to his commitment to his job, he has anchored several breaking stories in THISDAY.

Mr Obinna Chima, who hails from Imo State, has attended courses on business journalism in Nigeria and abroad, including Bloomberg Media Initiative in Africa; Advanced Training on Financial Journalism, Press Media Association, London; Advanced Writing and Reporting Skills (AWARES), Pan-Atlantic University, Lagos; and Thompson Reuters Training on Financial Journalism, Uganda, among several others.

He is a regular participant at the International Monetary Fund, World Bank, World Trade Organisation, and other global multilateral institutions’ meetings.

A former President of the Finance Correspondents Association of Nigeria (FICAN), Obinna is a member of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE). He is happily married with children. NNL.
