Nigeria's President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and former military Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, will lead other eminent Nigerians at the occasion of a book presentation titled: 'The Making of Modern Nigeria, From Pre-Colonial Era Till Date'.
Other dignitaries equally expected to grace the book launch and some of whom will play significant roles at the event, include Nigeria's Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima; Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma; Senators Seriake Dickson, Ali Ndume, Victor Umeh; Professor Obiora Okonkwo and Yemi Adaramodu.
The book which was authored by three prominent journalists, Mr Onuoha Ukeh (current Group Managing Director and Editor-in-chief of the SUN Newspapers), Dr Tony Onyima (a former SUN Newspaper MD/Editor-in-Chief) and Mr Chuddy Oduenyi, will be presented on Thursday, September 21, 2023, by 11 am, at the Shehu Musa Yar'Adua Centre, Abuja.
The presentation is done by the SUN Newspapers Group in partnership with COMPACT Communications Limited and Bridgehead Communications Limited.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his Vice, Senator Kashim Shettima, will be the Special Guests of Honor, while former military Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, is chairman of the occasion. Imo state governor and chairman of the South East Governor's Forum, Senator Hope Odidika Uzodimma (Onwa Oyoko), will be the Keynote Speaker.
Selected Discussants on the event's lecture topic: 'Nigeria and the Task of Nation Building', are: Senators Seriake Dickson (a former governor of Bayelsa State); Ali Ndume, Victor Umeh; Professor Obiora Okonkwo and Yemi Adaramodu.
Meanwhile, the new book has been described by the Vice President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (South East Zone), Hon. Sheddy Ozoene, as "A Book For All Seasons".
Ozoene, fondly referred to by media colleagues as the "Mayor of Eastbridge" (He was also a former Council Chairman of Udi Local Government Area, Enugu State), however described the trio of book authors as "among the best" in Nigerian journalism.
Hon. Ozoene, on Thursday, remarked on the new book thus: "You do not judge a book by its cover," I've been told severally. I agree because colorful covers and flowery titles have misled me in the past. These days, I would pay only after reading the blurb at the least, and flipping through some pages.
"Of course, there are exceptions. In years past, I simply walked into a bookshop, gathered books by James Hadley Chase and paid for them. The titles didn't really matter, and at home I would just start reading from the one topmost of the pack. Each of them was guaranteed to thrill.
That's the power of the author's reputation.
ONUOHA UKEH, TONY ONYIMA, CHUDDY ODUENYI are nowhere near Chase but they are reputable in their own rights. Their new book, 'The Making of Modern Nigeria: From Pre-Colonial Era Till Date' immediately arouses huge interest. It's such an audacious title, and it appears a groundbreaking work.
"September 21 is a week away; it's a date to keep with the three who are among our very best in this journalism business", the NGE Vice President (East) stated. NNL.
