About forty five communities from twenty local government areas of Bauchi State are to benefit from two million US Dollar environmental control and management Projects.
The Project which is a collaboration among the State, Federal Government and World Bank, has four major components to include Dry land Management, Community Climate Resilience, Institutional Strengthening and Emergency Response.
Under the Project, eight communities of Gwaram, Gwalolo, Gwallagan Mayaki, Duguri, Cheledi, and Sulaiman Adamu were identified as beneficiaries from major projects that would address critical aspect of environmental challenges including flood control project, bridges and drainage construction, as well as construction of Water Retention wall.
At a stakeholders engagement on the implementation of the project in Bauchi, Governor Bala Mohammed noted that the state has paid five hundred million naira as counterpart fund to attract the intervention in view of it's impact on the lives of people.
According to him, his administration would not renege in supporting programmes aimed at providing solution to communities being bedeviled by environmental related challenges.
In an addresses, the Acting National Project Coordinator, Ayuba Anda, who was represented by the project monitoring specialist, Engr. Mukhtar Yakubu Tanko, congratulated the state for securing the grant and called for effective implementation.
Also speaking, the State Commissioner, Ministry of Housing and Environment, Hamisu Mu'azu Shira and State Project Coordinator, Dr. Kabiru Ibrahim, charged the benefiting communities and relevant stakeholders to provide all the needed cooperation towards achieving success.
After the four days stakeholders engagement, a road map for the implementation process would be released. NNL.
