Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has formally declared his intention to contest for the governorship, outlining a vision anchored on inclusive governance, grassroots development and resilient leadership.
Speaking at his declaration, Tuggar underscored the importance of quality leadership in shaping families and communities, warning that poor governance continues to undermine social and economic progress.
According to him, his political journey—spanning years in opposition and his previous service as minister has equipped him with the experience and insight required to lead effectively.
“I understand the pain of electoral defeat and the expectations of the people. These experiences have strengthened my resolve to serve with commitment and integrity,” he said.
Tuggar reaffirmed his loyalty to his political party, noting that his decision to remain steadfast despite setbacks reflects his dedication to democratic ideals and continuity.
He also drew from his grassroots background, highlighting the resilience of rural communities, particularly farmers and livestock rearers who operate under difficult conditions.
“My roots are in the community, where people strive daily despite challenges. Their resilience inspires my determination to deliver people-oriented governance,” he stated.
On policy direction, the aspirant identified key sectors such as healthcare, education and community development as priorities, stressing the need to strengthen primary healthcare systems and improve access to basic services across the state.
He further emphasized the importance of unity and inclusion, pledging to protect minority communities and promote greater participation of women and vulnerable groups in governance.
“Leadership must be fair and inclusive. We must create opportunities for all citizens, regardless of background,” he added.
Tuggar called on the electorate to support leaders with vision and integrity, noting that sustainable development can only be achieved through collective commitment and responsible leadership.
Political observers say his declaration signals the beginning of intensified campaigns ahead of the forthcoming governorship election, with candidates expected to focus on grassroots engagement and policy-driven debates. NNL.
