The Federal Government, on Wednesday, declared Friday April 7th April (Good Friday) and Easter Monday, 10th April, 2023, as public holidays.
In a statement on Wednesday in Abuja by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Shuaib Belgore, the FG through the Minister, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, said the two days public holidays were in celebration of Easter festival.
The government urged Christians to use the season of Easter to emulate our Lord Jesus Christ this Easter for sacrifice and strive to ensure unity, forgiveness, kindness, love, peace, and patience, as exemplified by Christ's earthly ministry. The FG also enjoined the Christians and indeed all citizens to celebrate and pray for an end to the challenges facing the nation.
The statement reads: “Security is everybody’s business. I, therefore, urge Nigerians and foreigners resident in our country to display a high sense of citizenship and public spiritedness by supporting the efforts of all security agencies in bringing peace and security of lives and property of the citizenry".
Aregbesola however assured the public that, the government will ensure a peaceful transition of power following the recent conduct of the general elections. He wished all Christians, both home and abroad, a joyful and peaceful Easter, urging them to show love and kindness to their neighbours. NNL.
