- * Pray For Nigeria's Salvation, Secondus Tells Muslims
- We Need Prayers, Spirit Of Oneness, Peaceful Co-existence, Says Obi, ex-Anambra Gov
Nigeria's opposition leader and National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus, has urged all Nigerians to use the period of Eid-el-Fitri festival to reflect on the situations in the country and pray a leadership that will help save the country.
The PDP Chairman said Nigeria "is in serious trouble because of the glaring absence of leadership at a time it's most needed".
In his Sallah message on Wednesday to mark the end of the 30-day Ramadan fasting period by the Muslim faithful, Prince Secondus stated that the "nation's democracy and indeed the country, more than ever before since 1999, is under heavy stress that needs all hands to be on deck for its survival".
Secondus message was contained in a statement by his Media Adviser, Ike Abonyi, which also stated: "that six years after the nation's democracy was handed over to the ruling All Progressives Congress APC, indicators are apparent that it is under such pressure that needs prayers and commitment of Nigerians for survival".
According to Prince Secondus, the "end of the Holy month of Ramadan should provide ample period for positive attitude from those in the position of authority to underline the lessons of sacrifice and brotherly love, warning that our actions as leaders must not negate the fundamental prescriptions of our faith.
"Most of the problems confronting the ordinary people would have been solved if leaders absorb the lessons of Ramadan and allow it to influence their conduct in and out of office"
"The only way the last 30 days of fasting and prayer will be meaningful in our lives as a nation is if we allow the solemnness of the period to influence our thoughts and actions in relating with one another".
While wishing all Nigerians a happy Sallah celebration, he appealed to the citizens of all faith to continue to maintain their harmonious inter-faith relations, for the attainment of the desired peace without which we cannot achieve good governance.
Prince Secondus also cautions leaders to mind their utterances at all times.
Meanwhile, former governor of Anambra State and PDP's Vice Presidential candidate in the 2019 general elections, Mr Peter Obi, in his message of goodwill to all Muslims on Eid-el-Fitri, calls for prayers, the spirit of oneness and peaceful co-existence. He charged all Nigerians not to allow the prevailing hardship and mounting insecurity in the country to adversely affect their spirit of love, brotherliness and peaceful co-existence.
Rather, Obi said, the people should use this year’s Eid-El Fitri festivities to engender the spirit of oneness and also re-dedicate themselves to the virtues of love, patriotism, and unity for the desired national development.
In a statement on Wednesday on his behalf by his Media Director, Valentine Obienyen, Peter Obi noted that Nigerians should allow the solemnness of the last one month of Ramadan to positively influence their thoughts and actions in relating with one another.
According to him, the Ramadan period presents a great opportunity for Nigerians to devote themselves to the values that unite and bind all citizens in love, while permanently putting behind them all divisive tendencies.
The former Anambra State Governor finally wished all Nigerians a happy Sallah celebration and prayed for enduring peace in a secure and peaceful country. NNL.
