The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has called for closer working ties with media organisations, especially Radio and Television stations, as part of collective efforts to bring to the barest minimal, breach of road safety rules across Nigerian highways.

The FRSC also said enlightenment campaigns through electronic media organisations such as, Radio and Television in particular is very vital in the continued enlightenment campaigns on road safety rules to reduce carnage, including deaths.

Niger State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Corp Commander Musa Ahmad Muhammad, spoke when he granted audience to the executive members, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Niger state chapter.

Corp Commander Musa Ahmad wants SWAN members and journalists in general to assist the command in creating awareness through reports as well as allocate more time for live programmes where issues about best practices on highways will be discussed.

With more air time on Radio stations, Ahmad said the command will be able to educate more road users, including commercial and private drivers plying intra and inter-state routes on basic safety measures that will bring to the barest minimal loss of lives due to accidents.

As key stakeholders, the Sector Commander told the media practitioners that he could count on them in ensuring accident free festive season, adding that the ember-months’ special patrol has already commenced across the 9 unit that make up the Command.

The Niger state SWAN executive led by the Vice chairman, Matthew Ojogbane, had earlier told the Sector Commander that they were in his office to seek for areas of partnership with the FRSC for the growth and development of sports in Niger.

While intimating his host of the forth-coming NUJ inter-Media Games/SWAN Week, the Vice chairman solicited for the support of the FRSC in ensuring a hitch-free event which will also feature enlightenment on how to improve on health and mental alertness through sports. NNL.
