Former President of Aka Ikenga and ex-federal parliamentarian, Hon Chris Asoluka, has passed on at age 70, shortly after his recent birthday celebration.

Asoluka, according to a statement by his family and signed by his eldest son, Jamachi-Chris Asoluka, died last Friday night in Lagos. He has been less visible in the public space in recent times.

The former House of Representatives member was a development and public policy expert, a notable gentleman and respected political leader in Igboland who played valuable key roles in reshaping the political and economic direction of the South East geo-political zone, especially in the current dispensation.

Popularly known among friends, associates and family as 'Okwuruoha' (spokesman of the people), Dr Asoluka has been one of strong forces behind the survival and growth of the Igbo professional and intelligentsia body, Aka Ikenga.

The family's obituary statement reads thus: “With deep sorrow but grateful hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, in-law, friend, and patriarch, Dr. Chris Asoluka (Okwuruoha).

“Surrounded by love and held in grace, Daddy transitioned from this world just before midnight on Friday, May 9, 2025, with the calm dignity that defined his life.”

The family's statement also described him as "a man of unwavering principles, strength, generosity, rare intellect, and profound wisdom, who lived a life rooted in service, compassion, and an unshakeable commitment to family, community, and country.

“Though our hearts sag heavy, we take comfort in the fullness of his legacy — the values he instilled, the lives he touched, and the unmatched example he set.

“He was our anchor, our counsellor, our lifetime inspiration. His earthly absence is profound, but his spirit remains in every lesson, every memory, every story told, and every life shaped by his presence.

“We are thankful for the glorious gift of his life and for the grace with which he completed his earthly journey. As we begin this season of remembrance, thanksgiving, and celebration, we ask for your prayers, support, and love as we honour a man who meant so much to so many.”

Asoluka's funeral event, according to his family, will commence in Lagos with a Service of Songs/Night of Tributes on Thursday, July 17, 2025. Afterwards, his Commendation Service will hold on Friday, July 18, 2925, at Our Saviour’s Church, Lagos.

A Wake Keep and another Service of Songs will be held on Wednesday, July 23rd, 2025, at his home town Ihiagwa, Owerri, and will be followed by Obsequies on Thursday, July 24, 2025. NNL.
