The federal government has commended Zamfara state governor, Dr Bello Mohammed Matawalle's resilient efforts in moving the state education sector to the first place in the north west region.

The commendation was made by the Minister of State for Education, Hon. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba when he paid courtesy visit to the governor at the Government House Gusau during his official visit to launch the Better Education Service Delivery (BESDA) in Zamfara state.

The minister described the sterling efforts of Matawalle at moving the state's education sector has led to tremendous performance of the state in the National Common Entrance Examination organised by NECO for primary School pupils to qualify them for admission into the federal colleges in Nigeria.

"Zamfara State came first in the 19th northern state and 14th in the national examination chart which means the state moved from 37th position to the 14th position," he said..

The minister described that the governor's effort as magical which has as transformed the education sector of the state hitherto considered most endemic with over 148,000 out of school children.

"it is as a result of your peaceful disposition that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) insisted that you should be included on the table of negotiators for the union to agree to sit with to discuss in the union's lingering faceoff with the federal government," he said.

The minister assured that the federal government will grant a waver to the state government to be paying N100 million monthly to settle the over N3.8 bn debt it WAEC and NECO examination fees inherited from the previous administration.

Responding, governor Matawalle promised to sustain the efforts to make the state great again.

Matawalle assured that his administration will continue to fulfil all its obligations and commitments to the federal government and international bodies for the state to benefit more from interventions support to attain the target of becoming one of the two best states in education service delivery.

The governor said his administration will continue to engage the best hands and professionals in all sectors of the state so that the best can be achieved. NNL
