Barely 24 hours after alleged assassination attempt on Hon Sagir Attahiru Bafarawa, the first son of former governor of Sokoto State, Attahiru Bafarawa, an early morning fire has razed down Garkuwa FM, a radio station owned by the former governor.

Sagir Bafarawa, believed to be supervising the widely listened to radio station in Sokoto, recently resigned his appointment as the State Commissioner of Environment and joined the race to succeed the incumbent governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.

The fire which allegedly broke out few minutes after 7 am Thursday morning, was said to have started from an electrical appliance. An eye witness, Baffa, who was in the studio before the incident said, it all started from a fuse of the air-conditioner.

According to him, he saw tiny flame of fire coming out of the Air Conditioner's fuse and hurriedly rushed out to trip off the electricity to avoid escalation.

"However, when I got back, the whole section of Recording studio, Live Programme and the rest were already covered with thick smoke.

"Those of us on duty made frantic efforts to rescue what we can, but the velocity of the fire was so ravaging that we have to rush out for our dear lives".

While appreciating both the Federal and the State Fire Service for their prompt response, Baffa decried the collosal effect of the tragedy to the immediate employees of the FM station as well as their extended families and multiple listeners.

Though, effort to get a response from Sagir Attahiru Bafarawa over the development proved abortive as his mobile phone numbers were not reachable at the time of filing this report. NNL.
