The Vice Chancellor Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna, Professor Farouk Adamu Kuta has cautioned the newly matriculated fresh students from across Nigeria and other countries to face what brought them to the school by avoiding acts capable of disrupting their academic pursuits.

Engaging in examination malpractices, cultism, fraudulent acts, drug abuse, violence and other anti social behaviours, the Vice Chancellor said is not only against the university's by-laws but acts capable of cutting short their academic pursuits towards academic excellence, hence should be avoided at all cost.

The Vice Chancellor gave the warning while declaring open the 38th matriculation ceremony for the 2025/2026 academic session which took place at the Suleimanu Kumo Convocation Square main campus, Gidan Kwano, Minna.

He reminded them that the FUT, Minna awards degrees only to students who distinguished themselves in both learning and character, adding that they must therefore adhere strictly to the rules and regulations of the citadel in order to merit such certificates.

The Vice Chancellor who however described their decision to choose the FUT Minna, as a wise one and congratulated them for being among the lucky ones.

The Vice Chancellor who credited the institution for making world records, Prof. Kuta told told the newly matriculated students that in the 2006 Times Higher Education World University Rankings, FUT Minna was ranked 7th best in Nigeria, highest ranked Specialized University in Nigeria, among the top 10 Universities in West Africa and 68th in Africa.

While expressing delight that among those that matriculated or took oath are pioneer students of College of Medicine Sciences and Health Technology, which emphasizes the school’s unwavering commitment towards addressing societal challenges, especially the critical shortage of healthcare professionals and medical technologists in Nigeria.

On the shortage of hostel accommodation, the Vice Chancellor said the management is aware of the issue and that of the off- campus housing, and that it is actively engaging relevant stakeholders to provide affordable and sustainable accommodation for both staff and students.

Out of the 12, 6061 that applied through direct entry and post UTME, the Vice Chancellor said only 11, 107 participated in the screening exercise 8, 134 were offered admission.

He further explained that 7, 968 accepted the offers but only 7, 529 successfully completed registrations as bonafide students of the FUT, Minna. NNL.
