The Bauchi State Government has reaffirmed its solidarity with the media community following the death of Channels Television cameraman, Pwakaniso Ben Sylvanus, who was laid to rest on Saturday in Adamawa State.

Governor Bala Mohammed, represented by the Commissioner for Information, Usman Shehu Usman, announced the automatic employment of the deceased’s wife into the state civil service.

The governor described the approval as a gesture of goodwill aimed at cushioning the hardship faced by the bereaved family.

Ben, 43, died from injuries sustained in a motor accident along Duguri Road while covering activities of the North East Development Commission. The crash involved 14 persons, including journalists from various media organisations.

Governor Mohammed had earlier visited survivors receiving treatment at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital and directed close medical supervision of the victims.

He expressed deep sorrow over the incident and prayed for the repose of the deceased’s soul, assuring continued partnership between government and the media. NNL.
