Governor Mohammed Umar Bago of Niger state has promised to support the police with additional mobility including; Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) and gun trucks to enable the command check high profile crimes such as armed banditry and kidnapping.
The governor made the promise at the commissioning of the new Chanchaga Divisional Police headquarters constructed by his administration after demolishing the old structure built along the water pipeline.
Security of lives and properties of citizenry is one of the basic necessities expected of governments, and this, according to governor Bago, prompted his decision to replace the old structure that has deprived million of Nigerlites water over the years.
While acknowledging efforts being made by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and other security agencies to bring crime and criminality under control in parts of the state, Governor Bago expressed the commitments of the state government to do more.
Bago who expressed plans to bring succour to the families of security personnel who paid the supreme price in their line of duty, however challenged Nigerlites to take the issue of security as everyone’s business by reporting potential threats to security agencies.
He nevertheless called on the entire security forces in Niger state to be more proactive in their line of duties by evolving new strategies in tackling the new wave of crime especially amongst the youths.
The Commissioner of police, Niger state Command, Mr. Ogundele Ayodeji, had earlier commended the Niger state government for the new structure, which, according to him, will motivate and encourage the police in serving the people more effectively.
Ogundele however solicited for more support from the state government in the area of mobility to tackle the new dimension of crime and criminality, especially kidnapping and armed banditry. NNL.
