The Bauchi chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has assured of support to the newly posted Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to achieve his mandate towards reducing the rate of accidents in the state.
The state chairman of the NUJ, Comrade Umar Sa'idu, made the pledged at a press briefing with journalists and FRSC management in Bauchi. He noted that the NUJ has given similar support in the past to the Command and outgoing Sector Commander respectively.
Ably represented by the NIGERIAN NEWSLEADER Newspaper Correspondent in Bauchi State, Mr Nasir Shuaibu, the NUJ Chapel Chairman said the NUJ and journalists have a good cordial working relationship hence the need to continue working together to achieve the desired objectives.
He appealed to the new Sector Commander to always avail the journalists information about the happening across the 20 LGAs to avoid misreporting of accidents cases in the state.
Responding, the new Sector Commander, Mr Patrick Ikaba, assured of his support to all media outfits in the state.
According to him, "The FRSC will only achieve success through the use of media in carrying out its activities especially public sensitization and enlightenment",.
He disclosed that the Command will soon embark on a rigorous sensitization campaign on safety measures against under aged driving, carrying pupils in front of motorcycles within and outside the State.
Ikaba, further disclosed that the rate of accidents has drastically reduced in the last quarter review which was a great success to the Command in the state.
The Bauchi State FRSC boss however reiterated his commitment towards reducing the number of accident cases in the state. He said he has directed all the 7 Command and work station units with 423 personnel as well as 4 operational ambulance buses within and outside 20 LGAs to intensify patrol to ensure compliance by road users.
