Gunmen suspected to be Tiv Militias have reportedly attacked and severely injured 1 farmers in Rafin Kada community, Wukari LGA, Taraba state.
A source confirm to NIGERIAN NEWSLEADER Correspondent that the attack happened on Thursday morning when almost all farmers were in their farms working. The motivation behind the attack is unclear, but clashes are common between the Jukuns and Tiv in the areas for years now.
Confirming the incident, the victim of the attack, Awudu Bigman Audu, in a telephone call narrated how they were attacked by 3 armed Tiv men when they went to the farm to plant groundnut.
“We were five at the farm planting groundnut, we didn't know they were coming, before we realize what was happening, we were already surrounded. They asked us to lie down, and we did, and they started cutting my legs muscles with cutlasses. They wanted to kill us without shooting, but when my brothers discovered they wanted to kill us, they ran into the gunmen, push them and ran away. That was when they started shooting at them. They left me, thinking I will bleed to death”, he said.
According to him, he survived and he is responding to treatment in the community hospital.
Also, as insecurity persist, a strong Vigilante group has killed three suspected bandits in Sansani Chiefdom of Gassol Local Government.
They have arrested and executed two ‘Bokolo’ Fulani, identified as Shehu Alhaji Umaru and his brother Debbu Alhaji Umaru, at their settlement at Kauyen Sa’idu Village area on the midnight of Saturday as well as Alhaji Mustafa Adamu popularly known as Sarkin Shanu in Sansani town last week Sunday for their alleged involvement in banditry, Kidnapping and Armed robbery.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Taraba State Police Command, Abdullahi Usman, said the incident is yet to be reported to the police. NNL.
