A 50 year old suspected serial male rapist and resident of Yakubu Wanka street, Mr Yusuf Bako, has been arrested by the police in Bauchi state for raping a four year old girl inside a Mosque at Aminu Street in Bauchi.
The suspect, it was learnt, was rescued by a team of police officers after he was severely beaten by angry mob. He was recently granted pardoned by the state government as a result of Coronavirus outbreak in the country.
A statement by the Bauchi State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) , DSP Ahmed Wakili, said the suspect was arrested for allegedly defiling a four-year-old girl at the Yakubu Wanka area of the Bauchi metropolis. The Police spokesman said that 50 year-old Bako when interrogated, confessed to the crime, adding that he was arrested and imprisoned for similar offence in 2011 and 2015.
The police statement said thus: "On the 03/09/2020 at about 1130hrs, one Jamilu Abdullahi of Igbo Quarters reported at the Township Police Station that on same date at about 0920hrs, one Yusuf Bako 'M' aged 50years of Yakubu Wanka Street Bauchi lured one Hauwa'u Jamilu 'F' aged 4years to a mosque located at Aminu Street and “had carnal knowledge of her”.
"Subsequently, the said Yusuf Bako was arrested and he confessed to the crime when interrogation, stating that he was arrested and imprisoned sometimes in the year 2001 and 2015 for the same offence. He further claimed to be among the fortunate inmates recently pardoned by the state government on the eve of Coronavirus," the PPRO stated.
