The Rotary Club of Abuja Kubwa Gateway has installed Rotarian Chimezie Ojiabo as its 7th president to oversee the affairs of the club for the year 2021-2022.
The investiture ceremony held at the weekend saw Rotarian Chimezie Ojiabo take over the leadership of the club from the immediate past president, Rotarian Livinus Okonkwo, after the completion of his one-year term.
Speaking at the ceremony, the new president revealed his plans to continue the already established positive trend of touching lives. He said he will focus on disease prevention and treatment, water and sanitation, maternal and child health, basic education among others. He also revealed that their project for the year will commence with providing a borehole for the club's adopted community.
Ojiabor stated that his leadership will also be carrying out medical outreach, targeting children, pregnant women, and the elderly. He added that as a humanitarian organization, Rotary is working to ensure that communities around Dutse/Kubwa area feel the impact of the club through execution of impactful projects.
"I am elated at this ceremony. We have a lot lined up in our seven areas of focus. We are particularly starting with interventions in our chosen community, especially potable water which has now become an emergency in view of the resurgence of cholera and other water borne diseases in the Federal Capital Territory" he said.
Earlier, the immediate-past president, Livinus Okonkwo, noted that the implementation of set goals for the 2020 despite it being a phenomenal year due to COVID 19 pandemic, made the club redirect it's focus to fighting diseases, education and provision of care and equipment.
He added that the next few months will be focused on supporting the new president to achieve the cause of Rotary and also make positive contributions for the sake of humanity. NNL.
