Ahead of the forthcoming National Convention of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the southeast Zonal Caucus of the party, on Thursday in Enugu, adopted Senator Sam Nnaemeka Anyanwu as the consensus candidate of the zone for the job of PDP National Secretary.

The emergence of Senator Anyanwu, popularly known as 'Sam Daddy', followed the criteria of the selection process. According to the southeast Zonal leaders of the PDP who took the decision at the Enugu meeting, preference was given to the southeast states that have no PDP governor, to fill the slots of National Secretary and National Auditor of the party at the coming PDP Convention.

The states are Imo which is under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Anambra which is under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), and then Ebonyi which is now under the control of APC, following the defection of governor Dave Umahi sometime ago, from the PDP to the APC.
