A 32 years old son of the District Head of Tureta local government (name withheld) was accused to have allegedly impregnated a 15-year-old and threatened to ostracize her parents from the Asarara village should she reveal his identity.

The said son of the District Head who is also a father of 2 alongside his father in a bit to show their influence further went ahead to file a character defamation case against the poor parents of the 15 years old after the incident became public discourse.

Speaking to our correspondent on her plight, the survivor, Rakiya (not real name) said while she was hawking her local millet gruel (Fura Da Nono) the District Head's son called, cajoled her to enter his room where he had carnal knowledge of her.

"The son of the District Head called me to bring Fura Da No-no. On reaching, he said his wife is not around and that it's either I bring the Fura inside or he instigates his father to ostracize my poor parents from the community.

"Scared of that, I took the Fura inside and he held me and say it's either he had carnal knowledge of me or asked his father who is the District Head to ostracize my poor parents from the village. After hearing that, I was scared and had no option than to allow him to have his way by deflowering me.

"He also said if I refused to come to see him after that time, he will carry out his threat of instigating his father to sack us from the village. Therefore I kept going to see him at his request until I eventually discovered my body system has changed. That was when people said I was pregnant. I told him and he denied saying if I ever mention his name, he will ask his father to ostracize my poor parents from Asarara village".

Efforts to speak with the District Head nor his son proved abortive at the time of filing this report, our correspondent however gathered that they have gone ahead to file a defamation of character charge against the 15 years old girl and her poor parents, even as the girl is currently under the care of NAPTIP in the State.

Confirming the development, Zonal Commander of NAPTIP in charge of Sokoto/Kebbi and the Zamfara States, Mr. Micika Mafa Ali said his men are on top of the situation and will ensure justice is done. NNL.
