The authorities of Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri, Imo state, South East Nigeria, said it has commenced a full investigation into the identity of the student who gloated on social media TikTok about how she allegedly graduated with the help of God and her private part.
The school is also probing her academic record while as a student of the institution to ascertain the circumstances surrounding her graduation.
A statement made public on Monday, January 30, 2023 and signed by the Registrar of the institution, Mrs E.C. Anuna, said "It is even most blasphemous and antithetical that the said student peddled the name of the Almighty in her deleterious act.
"Management considers the action of the student most unacceptable and preposterous. The Federal Polytechnic Nekede prides itself as an institution with high academic and moral standards. Both staff and students are quite aware of the consequences of any misconduct”.
The statement also informed that the management of the institution, in an unprecedented move and through some various disciplinary committees, had "released hot lines through which students can report any act of exploitation or corruption. These committees are diligent in ensuring that any staff or student found culpable is meted with appropriate punishment.
"The despicable post of this supposed student does not therefore represent the standard of our institution. The Rector of the institution, being a clergyman, has been very committed and consistent in instilling discipline in our students through seminars, Solemn Assemblies, sensitization outreaches and publications".
The school assured the irate public that "When our investigations are over, we shall make our findings and pronouncements public. It is in our purview to ensure that only students found worthy in learning and character are certified. This is a commitment to which we shall remain consistently resolute".
A yet to be identified braid wearing, fair-skinned lady who claimed to be a female student of the Federal Pyrotechnic Nekede, Owerri, Imo state capital, was sighted on a trending live broadcast (TikTok) video she made on her social media handle, thanking God and her private part for aiding her graduation from the school with a Higher National Diploma (HND), after claiming to have successfully defended her project. She was seen smiling and celebrating her success.
Meanwhile, public condemnation across the country and on the social media space, trailed the lady's video comment. The public outrage it elicited, compelled the authorities of Federal Polytechnic Nekede to issue a public statement condemning the female student for her act of indiscreation and dissociating the school from her conduct while promising to investigate the episode.
