Still smarting from the pains of his removal as governor on Wednesday by the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has promptly rejected the judgment of the Tribunal, describing it as marred by human imperfections and misapplication of the law by the justices.

The aggrieved governor elected on the platform of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) founded by Kano state governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, hinted at a news conference late Wednesday, September 20, 2023, that he would seek a redress at the Court of Appeal.

The Kano State Governorship Tribunal, in its judgement on Wednesday, announced governor Yusuf's opponent, Alhaji Nasir Gawuna, of the All Progressive Congress (APC) as the winner of the 18 March, 2023 gubernatorial election in the state.

The governor said at the news conference that based on the briefings he got from his legal defence team, the Tribunal's judgement was imperfect and a gross misapplication of the law which provides grounds for his appeal.

Governor Abba Yusuf was sacked from office by the Tribunal after deducting 165,663 votes from his total vote score at the poll. The Tribunal ruled that the ballots containing the votes were not certified by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The 3-man panel of judges at the Tribunal was led by Justice Oluyemi Asadebay. With governor Yusuf's decision to appeal the judgement, he will, however, still remain in office pending when the apex court finally rules on the case. NNL.
