The 2019 Gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Niger state, Alhaji Umar Mohammed Nasko, has been suspended by the Magama Local Government Area of the party over alleged ‘anti-party activities.
Nasko is said to have sponsored and assisted the candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate in the last bye-election for the vacant Magama/Rijau Federal Constituency with funds and campaign vehicles.
According to a letter addressed to the PDP Chairman, Niger State Chapter, dated July 23, 2021, Nasko allegedly worked against his party by directing all his supporters to vote for the APGA candidate against the PDP candidate.
The suspension letter titled, “Notice of Suspension of Umar Muhammed Nasko from the PDP, Magama Local Government Area, Niger state”, was signed by the PDP local government Chairman, Aminu Mohammed, and the Assistant Secretary, Tasiu Musa.
Nasko's suspension, according to the letter made available to our correspondent in Minna on Tuesday, was part of the resolutions proposed and adopted at the party’s emergency meeting which took place in Nasko town.
The suspension letter reads in part: “The former Niger state Gubernatorial candidate of the PDP in the 2019 election, Alhaji Umar Muhammed Nasko, is hereby suspended from the party in Magama Local Government Area over anti-party activities.
“The allegations of anti-party activities are very strong, that in the just concluded bye-election for the vacant Magama/Rijau constituency, he campaigned and directed all his supporters to vote for APGA against the PDP candidate and assisted the APGA candidate with funds and campaign vehicles”.
Besides campaigning against his party, “Nasko has not been featuring at party meetings and activities in Magama Local Government Area. He has been instigating members against themselves, causing trouble and disaffection which made some members to dump PDP for other political parties.
“Typical of his constant antagonism with council Chairman whom he fought till the Chairman was forced to decamp to the rival All Progressive Congress in the area”. These and more, according to the statement, are reasons Nasko remained suspended from the PDP.
The statement also explained other sins of Nasko to include alleged, “Instigating members against the PDP leader in Niger State, Dr. Mu'azu Babangida Aliyu. He disrespects and does not accord him (Aliyu) due regards as his former boss, Governor, and leader of the party”.
Efforts to get the former PDP Guber candidate, Alhaji Umar Mohammed Nasko to react to the allegations proved abortive as at the time of this report.
All his mobile telephone numbers were indicating either; ‘the number you have dialed is ‘unreachable and/or ‘switched off. NNL.
