Member Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees, Senator Joy Emordi and Okey Ezenwa, a former PDP southeast Zonal Secretary, on Wednesday, August 3, 2021, defected from the PDP to the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Chairman APC Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee and Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, the Chairman Progressives Governor's Forum and Kebbi State Governor, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, along with the Jigawa State Governor Mohammed Badaru Abubakar and Senator Ken Nnamani, a former Senate President, formally received the Senator Emordi in Abuja.
Senator Emordi, a former Senate Committee Chairman on Education, expressed optimism that the future of a prosperous and united Nigeria lay in the APC. She described the APC leadership as sincerely and genuinely committed to a united Nigeria that has plans for the future generation.
The former legislator assured the party of her loyalty and those of her supporters to the party. "l assure the party of my loyalty and support and to work for the success of the party."
Emordi said, "the APC-led- the federal government is working for the South East and this is attracting more PDP members into APC."
The APC Acting Chairman, Mai Mala Buni, expressed delight with the decision taken by the board member to contribute to the unity of the country. He averred that "There is a need for us to join hands for the political stability and national unity of our dear country", he said.
Governor Buni also stated that the coming of Senator Emordi and other prominent politicians from the southeast into the APC will promote national unity. "The South East is a strong political block and very crucial to the unity of the country. This, will no doubt, add to national cohesion ", said the Chairman.
Kebbi State Governor, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, who is also the Chairman of Progressives Governor's Forum, along with other national leaders of the party, has been in the forefront of promoting national unity and cohesion through the party by wooing people of different ethnic groups into APC.
