Renowned Development Economist and former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has, once again, explained that he would run for the 2021 Anambra state governorship election scheduled to hold on Saturday, November 6.
He revealed that his ambition is specifically driven by his determination and urge to make Anambra a model state in Nigeria, and above all, to make the South-East geopolitical zone an island of prosperity.
Professor Soludo will take part in the Anambra governorship race, hopefully on the platform of the governing All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the state.
According to a report by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) obtained by this news medium, the Nigerian Newsleader Newspapers, Soludo, in an interaction with newsmen on Saturday in Awka, said the South-East had become largely unliveable, despite the solid foundation and infrastructure laid down by leaders for the region’s development.
The erudite Professor described the South-East as a “tiny poor place that must begin to turn into a Promised Land". He however said “for you to create a liveable society comparable to any other place, it requires a crusade for all, and it must happen simultaneously in the South-East,” he said.
Soludo pointed out that Anambra had been relatively lucky with good governance in spite of its little resources. "My African Dubai Taiwan metaphor of development for Anambra is not dead. The larger goal is to make Nigeria a prosperous nation by creating prosperous and happy states. The mission is to create a greater tomorrow,” said Professor Soludo, generally nicknamed "the Solution" to the problems!
Soludo who is noted as an outstanding technocrat in the global economic community, however, said that his aspiration was not a personal quest to enrich his livelihood because “God has blessed me beyond imagination from a poor village boy to the peak of my career as a professor.”
The former University lecturer in the Department of Economics of the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), also noted that he had served in more than 25 committees at the federal level and had travelled to about 45 countries, insisting that his wealth of experience garnered in the process, placed him far above other governorship contenders in the November 6 guber poll.
Soludo firmly promised Anambra people (ndi Anambra), staking his acclaimed professional integrity and laudable career achievement records: “I have done it at the global level and at the national level, and now, I want to contribute my quota at the state level.
“There is nobody else with the global contact and national network or anything 10 per cent near it, as I have for the job,” he assured. (with additional reports from NAN). NNL.
