President Muhammadu Buhari has been commended by the management of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) for decision to appoint Dr. Orji Ogbonnaya Orji as the new Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI).
The Corporation's commendation was contained in a statement by the NNPC's Group Public Affairs General Manager, Dr. Kennie Obateru, He stated that the NNPC's Group Managing Director, Mallam Mele Kyari, applauds the President for his choice of Dr. Orji as the new helmsman of NEITI, stating also that the new NEITI boss would very likely continue with the existing reforms n the oil and gas isector.
According to the statement, Mallam Kyari, described Dr. Orji as a knowledgeable technical expert on EITI matters and resource governance professional. Kyari however explained that Orji has been deeply involved in NEITI and NNPC engagements on reforms of the oil and gas industry over the past decade, stressing that his appointment as CEO was most timely appropriate.
Kyari described the NNPC as a supporting organization of the EITI international which is ever ready to continue its collaborative partnership with the NEITI under tenureship of Dr. Orji, especially in key aspects of NEITI's industry auditing system, "exchange of information and data, commodity trading, contract transparency, beneficial ownership, mainstreaming and overall oil and gas industry reforms under the EITI/NEITI framework.
The NNPC GMD however expressed great hope and confidence that Dr. Orji would help consolidate the gains so far achieved by the NNPC-NEITI Joint Committee on Remediation established to ensure rapid implementation of all the findings and recommendations contained in the NEITI Independent Audit Reports of the oil and gas sector in Nigeria.
