* Analysts Say Defection May Elevate Political Fortunes of The Party

By Mohammed Nasir Shuaibu (Bauchi State Correspondent)

The political equation in Bauchi State may have taken a dramatic turn following Governor Bala Mohammed’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Allied People’s Movement (APM).

The move, announced after a strategic meeting with party loyalists in Bauchi, signals a possible realignment ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Political analysts view the governor’s decision as both a protest against internal challenges within the PDP and a calculated attempt to reposition his political structure under a less contested platform.

Receiving the governor, APM National Chairman Yusuf Muhammadu Dan Talle described the party as free of internal crises and legal disputes, promising equal opportunities for all aspirants.

The governor’s endorsement of the party’s slogan, “Nigeria First, Bauchi First,” further underscores what observers interpret as a populist strategy aimed at consolidating grassroots support.

The defection has also quelled widespread speculation about Mohammed’s possible move to dominant parties such as the APC, ADC, or PRP.

Analysts say the entry of a sitting governor into the APM could elevate the party’s relevance nationally while reshaping alliances and rivalries within Bauchi State politics. NNL.
