The Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to promoting press freedom and sustaining a media-friendly environment in the state.
In a statement issued to mark the 2026 World Press Freedom Day, observed annually on May 3, the governor congratulated journalists in Bauchi State and across Nigeria, commending their resilience, courage, and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
Governor Mohammed, who described himself as a longstanding advocate of responsible journalism, acknowledged the critical role of the media in strengthening democracy, promoting transparency, and ensuring good governance.
He noted that a free, independent, and responsible press remains fundamental to the growth of any progressive society, stressing that journalists play a vital role in keeping citizens informed and holding leaders accountable.
“As a government, we recognize and deeply appreciate the sacrifices made by journalists in ensuring that citizens are well-informed. Your commitment to truth and fairness contributes immensely to the growth and stability of our democracy,” the governor stated.
He assured media practitioners of his administration’s continued support, emphasizing that Bauchi State would remain a safe and enabling environment for journalists to operate without fear or intimidation.
The governor also urged journalists to uphold professional ethics by ensuring accuracy, objectivity, and promoting national unity in their reportage.
He further called on stakeholders to support and protect press freedom as a fundamental human right necessary for sustainable development.
Governor Mohammed wished journalists a successful celebration and encouraged them to embrace innovation and professionalism in the evolving media landscape. NNL.
