A former Police Inspector General, Suleiman Abba, has warned the nation, the federal government and the Police authorities on the ominous consequences of dscarding SARS as a result of the EndSars protests rocking some parts of the country's metropolis, saying it is a victory for armed robbers, criminals in Nigeria and desperate politicians.
In a trending statement credited to him on Friday , Abba said though the ENDSARS protest was a legitimate engagement by concerned citizens, he warned that it have been hijacked by politicians who are targeting 2023.
The former Police boss who served as IGP undex-president Goodluck Jonathan's administration, however said that the new replacement for SARS which is Special Weapons Attack Team (SWAT) "is equivalent to United States SWAT which is a rapid response force that tackle major security challenges".
Abba argued that "Like every society, it (SARS) has its limitations and some bad eggs have succeeded in tarnishing the image of the organization" .
The former Police IG advised that "what SARS needs today is major reform that would make it serve the yearnings and aspirations of all Nigerians. Therefore discarding the unit that has done a lot for the country may be a victory for criminals", he stated. NNL.
