The Federal High Court, Abuja has ordered the embattled Nasarawa State House of Assembly Speaker and his Deputy, Hon. Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi and Jacob Ajegena, to obey exparte order earlier served them or face imprisonment for contempt of court.
This was contained in order 9, rule 3 of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, a notice of consequences of disobedience to order of court rightly handed down to Hon. Balarabe Ibrahim Abdullahi and his deputy, Hon. Jacob Ajegena, respectively.
According to the Court order, "that unless you Hon. Ibrahim Balerabe Abdullahi and Hon. Kudu Ajegena Jacob obey the directive contained in the Order of the Federal High Court of Justice delivered on the 15th of June 2023 and attached to this order, you will be guilty of contempt of court, and be committed to Prison.
The defendant, Hon Oga Daniel Ogazi and the 12 elected members prayed the court to restrain the Balarabe Abdullahi and his 10 elected members from taking any steps in furtherance of the proceedings conducted by them on 6th June, 2023 within or outside the building/complex / chambers of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly.
The court granted the prayer and ordered Balarabe to stop any other such proceedings conducted outside the building/complex of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly purporting to be proceedings of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly and from holding or conducting any further Proceedings outside the building complex/chambers of Nasarawa State House of Assembly purporting same to be proceedings of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.
The Federal High Court is compelling the factional speaker to obey order of interim injunction restraining him and his 11 elected member loyalists from parading themselves or holding sitting in any way acting in a manner as to be seen or recognized as Speaker and Deputy Speaker respectively of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly.
