Five retired Inspectors General of Police, have lent their unflinching support to the effort by the new Inspector General Police, Rilwan Olatunji Disu, to reform the force for better efficiency and good result.
The support which has been described as "highly significant". The ex-Police IGs held meetings with Disu at the Police Force Headquarters, Asokoro, Abuja last week Tuesday.
The former Police bosses who were at the Force Headquarters to express their support for the IGP Tunji Disu include IGP Aliyu Attah; IGP Mike Okiro; IGP Ogbonna Onovo; IGP Suleiman Abba, and IGP Usman Alkali Baba. The apex police authority described the visit as "very purposeful".
A police source said the former IGPs "understand the demands of the office, having faced its challenges firsthand. They know the sleepless nights, the difficult decisions, and responsibility of leading the Force under national scrutiny".
The source continued: "despite these challenges, they offered their experience, mentorship, and a clear message. They reminded Disu that he does not lead alone. Their advice was direct and practical: sustain reforms, lead with intelligence, protect your officers, and never take the trust of the Nigerian people for granted.
The IGP is said to have received their guidance with humility and demonstrated confidence in his role. He recognises he is building on decades of institutional history shaped by his predecessors and views this not as a burden, but as a privilege.
The foundation is strong, and the path forward is clear. NNL.
