A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Novel Association for Youth Advocacy (NAYA), with the support from Population Reference Bureau, on Thursday, commenced advocacy on family planning for Adolescents in Nasarawa state.

Mrs. Mary Ashenanye, the state Coordinator who spoke at the one-day NAYA chat with newsmen, explained that the sensitization on family planning became necessary due to the high rate of unwanted pregnancy among young people in the state.

She said, "The aim of this program is to increase participation of young people in accessing family planning and reproductive health information and services because youths and adolescents aged 10-24 years are facing serious health challenges ranging from a high rate of rape, teenage pregnancy, and HIV/AIDS".

The state coordinator called no health practitioners in Nasarawa state to allow adolescents to access their facilities so that they can know their health status and challenges.

"We are appealing with health practitioners in the state to allow adolescents to visits their hospitals and clinics so that they can comfortably and willingly discuss an issue that concerns their health with them.

"I also want to use this opportunity to call on the health practitioners to make their services affordable, accessible, and sustainable for the youths", she added. NNL.
