The Minister of Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi, has said that the Nigerian Police would continue to fight alongside Army to dislodge armed bandits operating in the northwest part of the country.
The minister was reacting to the killing of a Divisional Police Officer alongside a Police Inspector in Tangaza town of Tangaza local Government Area of Sokoto State.
He said though the Nigeria Police suffered in the past through poor funding, a lot have been achieved by the present administration with the establishment of the new Police trust fund and increase in budgetary allocation.
He said his ministry, in collaboration with the new Agency, would bring out modalities that would see the equipping of the Police with state of the art crime fighting gadgets that would compete favourably with their counterpart around the world.
Dingyadi maintained that the welfare of the officers and men of the Nigeria police would continued to be his cardinal principle as long he remained the minister of the police affairs.
He said the plan to establish a Police mobile command unit in Sabon Birni local Government to checkmate the activities of armed bandits is still on.
" the police mobile command when established would complement the efforts of the police and as well serve as back up in the event of any unforseen attack by bandits." Dingyadi said.
According to him , the efforts would be intensified to see to the commencement of rehabilitation of police barracks around the country with a view to boost their moral while still in service.
He appealed to the citizens to support the initiated community policing aimed at giving the force useful information on the whereabouts and movements of criminals and syndicates conducting nefarious activities in their communities.
He said it is only through the new method the fight against bandits and kidnapping would be brought to an end.
" the issue of security is a collective responsibility, every peace loving citizen has a role to play in it's sustenance" said the minister.
Commenting on the recent recruitment exercise by the force, the said it's one of the best and transparent recruitment ever conducted in the history of the Nigerian Police Force.
He said lots of candidates described and adjudged the screening exercise as transparent and the best ever conducted, the stated. NNL.
